There’s two plays happenin’ right now.
The first is the one I’m in.
Theatre@first is this keen group of Somerville art geeks who get together in the basement of a church and make theatre happen. They’re my new favorite group of people – they’re doing it out of sheer love and their motto is “Theatre without the Drama.” The good lord knows this world needs more people like them. I feel giddily at home there.
“C’est Levine!” is, like it says on the tin, an evening of one acts by Mark Harvey Levine. They’re quirky and funny in a very David Ives/Christopher Durang kind of way, but with their own heart, and the play I’m in is all riotous and heart-wrenching and stuff, so you should come see it. Highly recommended to anyone who has a soul.
|Sunday||July 22nd||3:00pm (matinee)|
I cut and pasted the schedule from their website because I am exceptionally lazy.
The other is the show I’m directing….
…which is, you know, The Secret Garden, with the Young Artists Association. It’s the musical version of this strangely beautiful and etherial tale of an orphan girl in a big weird house full of big weird stuff (most notably, a garden that is, in fact, secret) and how you can find magic in the strangest places, and how love is the most potent botanical formula there is. Plus, there’s ghosts and neat music.
My seriously talented gaggle of young people will perform the show on August 3, 4, and 5 at Chelsea High School. Ticket info to follow.
